Topic: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

As CloudMe has not got the unpleasant file limit of 1000 items per directory unlike most other online storage services it is possible to use CloudMe as file sync server in Zotero. It perfectly works for me for a 1500+ items collection of PDFs with in total 2,7GB.

Here is how it is set up:

1. Log in to your CloudMe account
2. Create a folder named "zotero" at the root level
3. In the Settings tab of the Sync preferences of Zotero enter your credentials and the following URL:
http://webdav.cloudme.com/your_cloudme_username/xios (yes, it is http not https!). Hit "Verify Server" in the same Settings tab. smile
4. Happy syncing!

Be aware that the connection is not secured as CloudMe does not offer SSL connections right now.

Cheers Christian

Re: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

Hi Christian,

Great tip for connecting to CloudMe from Zotero!

The only thing I would add is that you can create your zotero folder in any CloudMe folder, not necessarily at the root level.  The root level, xios, is equivalent to "Cloud Drive"

Ex.  If you wish to have your zotero folder in your Documents folder:
(Cloud Drive>Documents>zotero)

The url would then be:

webdav.cloudme.com/username/xios/documents/zotero

Kind Regards,
Monica

Re: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

Just wanted to express my appreciation to CloudMe.

I tried numerous other storage services and ran into various issues with their WebDAV service, especially the 1000 items in a folder limit.

Thanks to CloudMe, Zotero reaches its full potential.

Re: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

I am using CloudMe with Zotero. Compared to Dropbox CloudMe saves whole database of zotero every time. So, it takes over one hour to update CloudMe server every time and as scheduled time and it is very time-consuming and inefficient. What I want is updating CloudMe server only with updated files in real time as the updated files are made in zotero database of my laptop. Is there any solution on this problem?

Regards.

Are you using WebDAV or CloudMe Sync (or maybe the older Easy Upload) to accomplish this?
I would presume that the WebDAV access could solve your problem, since the syncing applications might try to upload unchanged files in some cases.

Re: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

I used the directions in this forum to configure my Zotero to work with my cloudme and I still get this message: The "WebDAV server did not accept the username and password you entered. Please check your file sync settings or contact your server administrator." I tried putting my Cloudme username and password in several times and still it did not work.. I changed my password just in case.. It did not work.. Then I tried putting in  my Zotero username and passwork - just in case..- and still it did not work... Any ideas????

Thank you so much!

In your case the settings should be:
Url: http://webdav.cloudme.com/nefelinellie/xios/Documents/zotero
(right click on the link above and choose copy address)
Username: nefelinellie
Password: (your password)

Before you do this, make sure you have a directory called "zotero"
In your Documents folder by creating one at www.cloudme.com

Re: HOW-TO: CloudMe as file sync server for Zotero

Thank you!!! Do you know what the problem actually was? I had called my directory "Zotero", with a capital "Z" and it did not like that... Wow! Thank you so much!!!
